GUYS! I am so freaking ecstatic to share this post! First, I must say how amazing my father-in-law is. He is always so eager to help us with any task that we have going on. But, I just want to brag on him for a bit for this particular project. A couple of years ago, I pinned this entertainment center because I love the simplicity and modern look of it. I showed it to him last year and he immediately offered to build us our own version. What?! Second, he is the best carpenter that I have ever met. You have to see the transformation of our living room from before to after. The change is drastic! He did a superb job, just like I knew he would. It turned out even better than the original photo I showed him. I am ever so grateful he took the time to build this for us. Our living room feels so much bigger and brighter. We find ourselves staring at it since he and my husband installed it two weeks ago. This thing is gorgeous!!!
Here is the before photo of our previous entertainment center. It’s so dark and didn’t quite fit all of our components. I mean, check out the cord situation we had going on! So many tripping hazards. My hubby is basically an IT nerd so we wanted something custom for his desktop computer and electronic gadgets.
And the AFTER! Isn’t is beautiful?? It’s such a huge difference from what it was. Our living room area looks so much cleaner! If only we could snap our fingers and swap out this old carpet for wooden floors, we’ll be set! That’s coming later…The credenza and back panel are two separate pieces. The panel was installed with heavy duty wooden french cleats and it will not budge. The whole unit was made from blonde and white pine (very heavy, and TOP quality). My father-in-law stained it twice using Minwax Simply White, so it’s very light and natural looking. Then, he sealed it with a Clear Matte Polycrylic finish. The floating shelf on top is super sturdy and perfect for my decor!I’m so pleased with how it all looks. It’s amazing in our living room alongside our other furniture. I’ve envisioned exactly how I want this room to look, and it’s all starting to finally come together. We chose to go with sliding doors for the credenza. There’s so much space for storage down here! Our movies, DVD’s, and game accessories fit perfectly, with even more room to spare. We measured the open spaces on each side to fit Chris’s computer so it’s no longer sitting on the floor! It’s so nice to have a spot for everything. The chest here was on top of our last unit, but now it houses our Oculus Rift headset and controls. We have our VR sensors sitting on each side of our TV while the cords are hidden neatly behind it instead of dangling in front. So happy! Movie nights are way much more enjoyable now with such a sweet view! We’re still loving our plushy Momeni shag rug. This design is from their Maya Collection. So soft!Along with the solid yellow pine that my father-in-law chose for the majority of this piece, he also used a beautiful slab of blondewood to offset it and add character. The floating shelf is blondewood as well. He added white pine trim as a nice touch. It’s all so flawless!
Sitting to the left of our new unit is my curved chest from Bassett Furniture. I purchased this shortly after we bought our house 8 years ago, so it’s no longer available. But still one of my favorites! I hide all of my extra picture frames, seasonal things, candles and Scentsy bars here. It smells so good! Speaking of Scentsy, this copper geometric addition is my latest warmer!
Just for fun, I wanted to show you guys what our space looked like before we swapped out our beige sectional. There was so much brown everywhere. We found this gray beauty from Joybird. The tufted buttons sold me. It’s called the Eliot and is exactly what I was looking for. My taste has definitely changed since 2010!
In that back corner is my office space. Here’s a closer look of what it looks like today. I recently added the shelf on the left to store my decor that was previously on the old entertainment center. I love the pop of yellow on the sliding door! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen this. I found it on Zulily and it was screaming my name. The legs are so cool!
I’m excited that I can still display all of my colorful decorations. AND, my father-in-law also built me this gorgeous gray frame a few years ago! I posted a mini tour of my home office before, but I’ve changed it up a little since then. You can click here to check out that post. I’m a huge Michael Jackson fan (if you don’t already know). He sits on my floating shelf next to me every day, haha. My cat tries to knock him off when she feels like I’m not paying attention to her. She is such a stinker! The other side of our living room opens up to our back patio, dining room and kitchen. When we closed on our home, we decided to paint the dining room a dark gray; Dovetail by Sherwin Williams. One day, I really want to paint over all of this pink/yellowy beige with a much lighter gray. It’s such a big job and I don’t have the time to tackle it yet. Our fireplace is one of our coziest spots. My cat totally agrees because she hurries over to curl up in front of it when we turn the fire on. We even use it sometimes during the summer because we’re “those guys”! I’ve added some seasonal pumpkins to our mantel that I found at At Home. The subtle pastels are so pretty. The colorful print comes from A Beautiful Mess that I snagged on clearance. My most cherished photo is our little Cinderella princess posing in front of the castle at Magic Kingdom from our recent trip to Disney World. The best ever!!
And this marquee quote comes from my current jam called Euphoria. If you haven’t listened to it, do!! It’s amazing and SO beautiful. This entertainment center looks great from all angles, so here’s another for ya!
Last but not least, this is our entry. The buffet table came with our dining room table and chairs as a set. It’s not ideal for this location, it’s a little tight when people are coming in and out of the door. I want to DIY a console table with live edge wood eventually, but I’m still searching for the right one. For now, it works for displaying our knick knacks and photos!
As a bonus, here’s a quick view of our guest bath! I found this geometric show curtain with pink accents at Target and I adore it!! The one we had before was a brown paisley pattern so I like that it’s a brighter space in here now. We purchased soft pink hand towels, and I spray painted this planter to match the theme.
A HUGE thank you to my awesome FIL for all of the hard work he put into this. I seriously cannot thank him enough, he is so good to us! We love spending time in our living room as a family. It’s one of our favorite spaces, and now we can enjoy his beautiful craftsmanship every day. ♥
