Gold Lips Mouse Pad

I’ve been thinking for a while now that my boring mouse pad needed some sort of an update. There are so many great ideas on Pinterest and I was inspired to come up with a modern design. I thought that lips would be a lot of fun to do. And super hot, right?! This DIY is pretty basic and doesn’t take much time at all. When you’re done, you have something really pretty to look at each time you’re at your computer, haha. Here’s some easy step by steps!

What you’ll need:

  • Mousepad
  • Template
  • Pencil
  • Spray Paint
  • Glossy Clear Coat Spray
  • Scissors

First, grab your pencil and trace your template on top of your mouse pad. I created this template using my Cricut Explore Air. Looove this machine. For another cute DIY I did using the Cricut, click here! Now, you’ll cut out your shape and spray an even coat (maybe two) of your choice of color.

It’s already starting to look much better!

I chose to add a second color for the inside of the mouth. I grabbed a piece of paper large enough to cover my mouse pad to prevent spraying the outer edges, then I cut an opening on the paper for the inside of my template to lay over. I taped it in place on the back side and sprayed over it a few times to get a thick coating.

After it dried, the paint wasn’t as even as I had hoped. Not a problem, I just used some white paint and a small brush to smooth all of that out. I totally would have just done this in the first place and eliminated the previous step, but I wasn’t sure I had enough paint for multiple coats. The spray paint helped cover the majority of the area and acts as a good base to start with. Either way will work, whichever you prefer!

Take your new and prettified mouse pad outside and spray it with a glossy clear coat, just to be sure your paint won’t flake or anything later on. I tested a clear matte spray on a scrap piece, but it seemed to dull the shininess of the gold. The gloss gave it the look I was after, but use whatever you like the best. Once it’s completely dry, you’re all done! Easy, huh?
